Test your comprehensive chemistry knowledge from inorganic chemistry to organic synthesis, from physical chemistry to analytical methods on an international stage from national qualifiers to the Global Tour.
The Atlantia International Chemistry Olympiad is an international academic competition that aims to develop students' passion for chemistry, analytical thinking capacity, and laboratory competencies.
The competition covers a wide range of topics from inorganic chemistry to organic synthesis, from physical chemistry to analytical methods. Participants have the opportunity to demonstrate both theoretical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
Organized in a multi-stage format, the olympiad begins with national qualifying rounds and successful candidates compete with peers worldwide in the Global Tour. Successful students may earn academic scholarships, university admission advantages, and international exchange program opportunities.
Exam questions are prepared from the following six core areas of chemistry.
Atomic structure, periodic table, chemical bonding, coordination compounds and solid-state chemistry.
Functional groups, reaction mechanisms, stereochemistry, polymerization and organic synthesis methods.
Thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, equilibrium, electrochemistry and fundamentals of quantum chemistry.
Qualitative and quantitative analysis methods, spectroscopy, chromatography and titrimetric techniques.
Proteins, enzymes, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids and metabolic pathways.
Air and water pollution, ozone layer, greenhouse effect, sustainable chemistry and waste management.
National-level assessment with 20 original chemistry questions prepared on the basis of standard deviation.
Questions are prepared according to Bloom's Taxonomy, covering the stages of knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.
No scoring system is applied; results are announced based on percentile ranking. Students who achieve above the 50th percentile qualify for the Global Tour.
The exam includes multiple question types and measures comprehensive chemistry knowledge.
Questions that measure conceptual understanding using mathematical expressions of chemical laws and reaction mechanisms.
Calculation and analysis questions requiring multi-step solutions based on real-world scenarios.
Four-option multiple choice questions designed for rapid conceptual assessment.
Quantitative questions requiring formula application, unit conversion, stoichiometric calculations and numerical analysis.
Participants may choose one of the following exam languages.
Students who pass the 1st Round National Qualifying Exam earn the right to participate in the Global Tour.
To participate, students must pass the 1st Round and be included in the international participation package organized by Atlantia International.
Prepared with the same methodology as the national round, standardized on an international level with 20 questions.
Earn scholarships or direct university admission support. Gain the right to attend an 8-week English academic program at Italian universities, recognized as academic credit.
Earn the right to participate in international student exchange programs. Gain academic, cultural and social experience in different countries.
Students participating in the Global Tour are required to obtain the official participation package prepared by Atlantia International.
Additional services (city tours, cultural excursions) may be added optionally.
